Is Earthlink imploding? What about

the other service providers?
What would you feel like if you tried to get on the internet and you just couldn't?

Sorry. That was Romeo. The cat. The real skinny old cat.
Romeo may or may not have stopped an international crisis.
I may or may not have just canceled the dial-up I've been living with
as I thought I was waiting for some piece of equipment that I thought, I had been told
would be sent to me free of charge. In seven to ten business days.
I think I may have just given a man cause to think I was a jingoistic American.
That ugly one.
Fair warning

Family homes: Supersize my house
Last Updated: 12:01am GMT 18/02/2008
Across the most exclusive suburbs large family homes are being pulled down to make way for mini-mansions. Caroline McGhie investigates a building boom
It is Black Monday, one month ago: the world's stock markets are sliding, and estate agent Richard Winter is turning his BMW into the roads of some of the most prosperous suburbs in the country. He wants to show me how the wealth created over the past decade is being turned into property. In one road, almost every other house is being demolished and replaced with a huge mansion.
Back when I was watching my mother die

while also costing the state a bunch of money that could have saved
her
though she was
uninsured for the first time in her life.
Or at least her adult life,
OMG, Craig Ferguson is on fire!
He reminds me so much of the time in Florida when I felt like I was
falling apart, but this guy, Jon Stewart, a total unknown, had this real late-night show.
And then Dame Edna would come on.
Thanks to Jon and Edna,
You probably saved my life.
It was a very bad time but you made me laugh. A lot.
Thanks to you too, Craig.
You totally crack me up. Love the Prince Charles and Sean O'Conner stuff,
Who were you?

About three weeks ago I mentioned that I thought I might have stopped eating meat.
Well, it seems to have "taken". Though I continue to smoke. Ick.
Anyway, the reason I'm posting about this is because two people
commented and encouraged me with this new turn.
I just went back to dial-up.
Fri Feb 15, 2008 at 09:20:34 AM PDT
I didn't want to go back though I don't mind. I mean, you just keep 10 or 12 windows open, move along through them, and it doesn't matter. You still get to read a bunch of good stuff.
The reason I'm on dial-up is because I just switched from ATT/BellSouth to Earthlink. Wish I'd never left. Wish I still had my old Mindspring email address. But that's neither here, nor there.
I've been having connection problems for about a month. I called ATT and they came out and fixed it. It worked. For awhile. Mostly. Until today.
Today I keep shutting down the ole magic box, but it still wouldn't connect.
A rainy night in Geogia

This is not a real diary. I don't have that much to say.
I'm just listening to the rain on my roof, and during this terrible drought
that's a wonderful sound.
ps. maybe we should remember something about something here,
like it's not all about us
it's a great big beautiful world
A Victory for Hugo Chavez
Sun Dec 02, 2007 at 11:25:58 PM PDT
Yup. Brother Frias, or whatever he's called, has managed to pull victory out of defeat again.
(all that dialectic, victory out of defeat again talk)
Hey, Mister Hugo,
Why don't you sell your culture.
Your fabulisious coulture,
not on the tv.
What about those blogs?
What about those crazy blogs?....and those beachs? and those mountains and those plains?
And all those people. And all those people.
I don't want to break the law....

For the past two years I've taken advantage of the fact that Apple doesn't make me read directions to burn cds.
I burn 25 or 30 cds of my semi-favorite songs, the ones I think a lot of other folks might like if they had only gotten a chance to hear them, and I give them to my co-workers and favorite customers for Christmas.
Then I thought. Oh gosh. This is illegal. So what should I do?

Who said the Iranian guy mattered to Americans?
I've been hearing from the rightist noise machine that he matters, and
I'm wondering why?
The guy is NOT popular in his country..
The guy just lost three ministers and the head of the Iranian central bank.
His party just lost local elections about three months ago.
So why are we making a big deal about this guy and perhaps
getting the guy's numbers up in his country.
Sorry. It's not a real diary, but I just had to ask.

I would like to introduce you to a very funny man.
Dear Mr. Carter,
Thu Nov 30, 2006 at 10:10:49 PM PDT
Dear Mr. Jimmy Carter,
I've just been watching you on the Charlie Rose show.
I understand why my boss calls you a Communist.
You're smart, and nuanced and make sense.
You must be nuts, right?
Is there a cartoonist in the house?
Sat Nov 04, 2006 at 10:46:59 AM PDT
What I'd like to see is a two panel cartoon. In the first, labeled Democrats, you have an orchestra leader, waving, her back to us, and a room full of roving cats. Smart, hep cats, as a matter of fact. In the second panel, labeled Republican, you have a stern uniformed figure, back to us, facing a sea of blank, saluteing (you know the salute I mean) people, responding in unison.
This may not be diary material, but Kos is also a communication thingy. And we need this visual.
CBS 700 Club Morning Show
Fri Sep 15, 2006 at 11:07:09 AM PDT
I usually turn on the tv in the morning to see what people are being told on the network morning shows. The Today Show mostly because CBS' Early Show has even more fluff.
This morning the tv was on CBS when I switched it on. I was pleasantly surprised to see a serious looking news report for a change. But I'm quickly angered by an obvious right-wing talking points report on the coming elections. Every man-on-the-street interview is a quote of what I've heard on Hannity's radio show. Right down to the fear of electing Nancy Pelosi even if you like your local Democratic candidate. Just the other day Hannity and some Republicans were upset that most people wouldn't relate to this agrument because they didn't know Pelosi and Conyers, etc. Low and Behold, here it is on the CBS morning show.
But then Pat Robertson comes on. I must have been watching one of the Christian broadcasters when I shut off the box last night.
But no...
Why do we talk Mice, not Gaza?
Sat Sep 09, 2006 at 11:13:49 AM PDT
We don't talk about people being killed with our tax dollars?
Do you know what's going on in Israel? Cause if you don't you may as well hand some Arab kid a bomb and stand next to him. Seriously.
These people have every right to be pissed. Why don't we know about this? Ya gotta wonder?
Islam-o-Fascist In From the Cold?
Thu Sep 07, 2006 at 03:37:20 PM PDT
Yesterday I found this story. I thought it was rather strange that I'd never heard about it before. When I googled, I found that no US media had covered it except for a Reuters thingy and an article in the Washington Times that was now coming up as an "unavailable" page.
E-mail Appeal: Jack Carter

I got an email from Jack Carter today
He needs money, pronto. Since I'm sure everyone who's already donated got the same email, I'm posting it for those who have not given the good Mister Carter some Kos love.
Moving Africans Rapidly Through Atlanta .. MARTA

When I first moved to East Point I did it because you could get a great place to live for real cheap. The place had been ravaged by white flight. For sale signs were everywhere.
I'm white. My black neighbors, like the people in the grocery store, were very kind to me. No prob. The people at city hall though had this, like you havn't lived here for 50 years attitude, that was troublesome. I used to call them "the last people to leave East Point, turn out the light, crowd.

My Patriotic Hero, Coleen Rowley
Sat Jun 10, 2006 at 09:39:44 AM PDT
I just got this email from the Rowley campaign. I got it cause I sent them a bit of cash so I could get what I consider to be a historical piece of fashion, the AGENT FOR CHANGE t-shirt. This woman went against the tide and tried to actually protect this country from terrorists. She identified the culture Brownie personified. Like, how's my shirt look?
Rowley didn't care about networking for career advancement. She cared about this country. She's running for office. Shall we give her our love?
